Meituan cloud has deployed private cloud since 2012, initially for meituan to comment on its internal takeout, film and other business services, and later to extend to catering, hotel, tourism and other fields. The development space of cloud computing market is infinite. Why can't meituan cloud escape the fate of "leading box meal"? In the final analysis, it's because of its own failure.

In recent years, the global cloud computing market is surging, and it is the general trend for enterprises to go to the cloud. According to IDC forecast, by 2021, more than 90% of Chinese enterprises will rely on the combination of local / exclusive private cloud, multiple public clouds and legacy platforms to meet their infrastructure needs.

After the start of 2020, the domestic first-line Internet technology companies have pressed the acceleration key for cloud business, and Alibaba cloud, Tencent cloud, baidu cloud and Huawei cloud have accelerated the pace of commercialization. According to the report released by canalys on March 18, the market size of China's cloud infrastructure services in 2019 exceeded $10.7 billion, with Alibaba cloud and Tencent cloud accounting for 63.4% of the total market share!

Baidu cloud, which started to work in 2017, with a good technical foundation, only took a year to successfully squeeze into the top five of the domestic public cloud market.

Huaweiyun, who "stands in the world and looks at the world", started the latest, but has been running at high speed since last year relying on Huawei's deployment in the world for more than 30 years. In the second quarter of 2019, Huawei cloud continued its strong growth momentum, growing more than 350% in China's public cloud IAAs + PAAS market, ranking first among top manufacturers.

For the cloud computing business with fierce competition, Zheng Ye Lai, President of Huawei's cloud business, once said, "the more comfortable Huawei is in cloud service, the more uncomfortable the Internet cloud manufacturers will be in doing cloud service, and who can survive in the end will be the one who can do cloud service."

Why is this so? Zheng Ye explains, because the Internet cloud manufacturers used to be too easy to suffer. Huawei used to be too difficult, but now it is more and more happy. Because to B business is really customer-centric. As long as we focus on good customer service, business growth is a natural thing.

Unfortunately, Zheng Ye Lai's prediction was fulfilled in meituan. In the seven years since the birth of meituanyun, it is true that "the more we do, the more we suffer.". In the domestic cloud computing market, meituan cloud has always been in an awkward position. According to IDC's list of top 10 Chinese public cloud manufacturers in the first half of 2019, meituan cloud is not found. It's not hard to infer that at this stage of the public cloud market, meituanyun basically has no chance, just a soy sauce player.

According to Jack Welch's "number one, number two" theory, if you can't get into the top two of the market, you should shut down and turn around, let alone the invisible business of meituan cloud in the market ranking.

两周前恰逢美团10周年纪念日,王兴在内部信中向员工强调:下一个10年美团会加大科技研发投入。话音刚落,美团便手起刀落砍掉了前景一片大好的云计算业务。

近日,美团公有云宣布将于2020年5月31日0:00起,停止对用户的服务与支持,并回收资源。资源回收后,用户的数据将彻底找不回。

美团云自2012年起部署私有云,起初是为了美团点评内部的外卖、电影等业务服务,后延伸至于餐饮、酒店、旅游等领域。2013年,美团云开始对外运营,并与2015年5月正式独立运营,成立北京三快云计算有限公司。2017年5月,美团云公布了新的品Logo,正式在媒体面前亮相,同时宣布了下一步的战略方向——全面开放云能力。

云计算市场发展空间无限,美团云为何逃不掉“领盒饭”的命运?归根结底,还是因为自己不争气。

最近几年来,全球云计算市场风起云涌,企业上云已是大势所趋。据IDC预测,到2021年,中国90%以上的企业将依赖于本地/专属私有云、多个公有云和遗留平台的组合,以满足其基础设施需求。

2020年开年后,国内一线互联网科技公司更是将云业务按下加速键,阿里云腾讯云、百度云、华为云纷纷加快了商业化的步伐。据市场调研机构科纳仕(Canalys) 3月18日发布的报告,2019年中国云基础设施服务的市场规模超过了107亿美元,其中阿里云腾讯云合计市场份额达63.4%!

2017年才开始发力的百度云,凭借良好的技术基础,仅用了一年时间,便成功挤进国内公有云市场的前五名。

“站在世界看世界”的华为云虽然起步最晚,但依托华为30多年在全球的部署,自去年以来一直在高速奔跑。2019年第二季度,华为云延续强劲增长势头,在中国公有云IaaS+PaaS市场增速超过350%,在TOP厂商中位列第一。

对于竞争激烈的云计算业务,华为云业务总裁郑叶来曾经说过这样一番话,“在云服务上,华为是越做越舒服,而互联网云厂商将是越做越难受,做云服务就看谁能熬到最后。”

为什么会这样?郑叶来解释说,因为互联网云厂商们以前太容易了,没吃过苦。华为以前太难了,现在反而越做越开心,因为做to B业务,是真正以客户为中心,只要专注将客户服务好,业务增长是顺理成章的事情。

郑叶来的预言不幸在美团身上应验了。美团云诞生7年来,的确是“越做越难受”。在国内云计算市场,美团云始终处于若有若无的尴尬地位。根据IDC公布的2019上半年前十大中国公有云厂商名单中,美团云并不见踪影。由此不难推断:公有云市场的现阶段,美团云基本没有机会,只是个打酱油的。

按照杰克韦尔奇的“数一数二”理论,进不了市场前二的就应该关停并转,更不用说美团云这种在市场排名中都看不见的业务了。

实际上,2017年美团云就有被抛弃的端倪。时任美团点评高级副总裁王慧文指出:“基于试点的商业模式判断未来市场规模,如果不够大我们也会考虑关闭业务。跟我们既有业务之间的战略协同价值,如果未来市场规模不够大,但是战略协同价值够大,可以考虑扩大经营,否则就应该关闭,比如共享充电宝。”

对于美团而言,盈利压倒一切。此时王兴砍去市场规模不大且需要不断输血的云业务,只能说是既现实又无奈的一次抉择。

当然,美团云的匆匆离场无形中也给王兴无边界式的探索敲响了警钟。对于任何一家公司而言,在没有十足的把握前,做好壁垒之内的事才是关键中的关键。至于王兴两周前刚说的要加大科技投入?嗯,大家姑且就听一听吧。
